crunch. ouch.

On my way back to DJ's preschool this afternoon (he was already there, playing happily with his classmates), to help with their halloween party, someone decided to run a very red light and smash into my car. I'm fine. Very sore, but otherwise a-ok. I am so grateful that DJ was not with me. They hit his side of the car and while the car didn't sustain a lot of damage on the side (the underside is another story, I landed up on a raised median), he would have been traumatized.

I called the preschool and they called Todd (my soon-to-be-ex-husband) and Todd rushed out of work and drove over to pick DJ up and then they came to pick me up at the hospital. I was taken with all precautions (backboard, etc), because of my previous back injuries and the fact that I was having some pain at the scene. Everything checked out fine and I was released.

I will be sore for a few days and I don't have a car and will have to figure that situation out in more detail in the coming days, but for now, I am so grateful that it wasn't worse and DJ was happy and content at school.

Life in the fast lane

I previously posted that it didn't feel like fall. A few days later, it got really cold and it couldn't be more fall-like now. I like that we need sweatshirts and jackets and if we were to be out early enough, hats and gloves would be required too. Its in the 30's at night. I love that I can pile blankets on the bed and snuggle down under them to sleep.

Things have been very busy these days. DJ is in school Monday-Thursday afternoons. I'm teaching Monday and Wednesday afternoons and then filling in on other days, when needed. We had another friend's birthday party to attend yesterday. It's almost Halloween, so there are those festivities. By the time that's over, I will be trying to prepare Christmas cards, then there's thanksgiving and before you know it, we will be getting on an airplane to go home for Christmas and New Years.

Before that happens, I have been presented with an opportunity. Right now, I am an assistant teacher in the Pre-K class. There are three classes at our school, a 2 1/2-3 year old class, 3 1/2-4 year old class and then Pre-K. The youngest class has two assistants, and one of them has decided to leave. Its a lot tougher class than the Pre-K, because the kids are so much younger, but I could use the money and I think it could be fun. It means some extra stress on DJ, as he would be in school all day on Tuesdays and Thursdays, but I think he can handle it. So, I'm trying to make that decision right now. If I do that, I will work monday and wednesday afternoons, tuesday and thursday mornings, and then also have a guitar lesson every tuesday afternoon. I have until mid-week to ponder this. Any thoughts?

The pictures that are mixed in with this post are from the pumpkin patch trip at the beginning of October. One of the mom's in DJ's class is a professional photographer and took hundreds of pictures that day and gave a disc to the school. As the teacher I assist doesn't have a working computer at home, I volunteered to go through the disc and put together an online album, which we will then email to the other parents, so they can get the pictures of their kids at the farm.

Alright, we are off to church...

2 Corinthians 5:17

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; Old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

Fall?

Its been near 80 or over 80 for the past few days and will be for at least another day. It certainly doesn't feel very fall-like. It does, however, look fall-like, and I enjoy that very much. Just a quick picture of our street, looking fallish, despite the summer temperatures.

We are busier than ever these days. I can't decide if I like being busy or if I feel overwhelmed by it. It helps the time pass, but I'm tired all the time. After the New Year, things should settle into a routine, but until then, its going to be busy.

School is going very well. I love teaching! It's kinda funny, because as much as I teach, I'm actually learning more. DJ is doing well in Pre-K. Always Mr. Social, he gets into trouble for talking or not using his "inside voice" a lot. Overall, he is learning lots and fits in quite well.

We have three birthday parties in the coming weeks, five Halloween related activities, including a costume party, his party at school, a non-scary harvest festival at a nearby park, trick-or-treating on Main Street the day before Halloween and then the trick-or-treating on the actual day. He has two different costumes, a Monkey and Thomas the Tank Engine.

I get to go home for Christmas, for sure, and now there is a possibility that DJ and I will travel back to Washington for Thanksgiving as well. I am super excited!!!

It's Fall

We had the school field trip to the farm/pumpkin patch today. The weather here has been all over the place, but today really felt like fall. Its about 63, patchy sun, and windy. Pony rides, feeding and petting lots of farm animals, a hay ride, and then picking out pumpkins. Plus, they had a lot of places for the kids to just run and play and be loud and crazy.

Something's going on with my camera, I'm not really sure what, so I didn't get many pics. DJ has a cute little pumpkin and we are going to try and paint it this weekend.

Even with a few warm not-so-fall days mixed in, it's definitely fall. The leaves are changing, the nights and early mornings are pretty cold. I really like this time of year and it's one of the nicer times to live on the east coast, because there aren't a lot of evergreen trees, so you really get to experience the leaves changing and things like that. I do miss my evergreen trees, though!
