Day One
I have been DJ's nanny since October 2004, when he was just 7 months old. DJ is now 4 years old and a lot has changed. In the beginning, I mostly just took care of DJ during normal monday-friday working hours. Todd and I were living on base, preparing to move to Connecticut. DJ's mother chose to be stationed in Japan for two years, alone. She chose to leave DJ in our care during this time. Ok, not really a big deal. I had Todd to help me. About a year through this process, Todd and I decided to get a divorce. DJ and I packed up and moved back to my grandparents house. Again, not a big deal, I had my mom and grandparents to help me. Fast forward one year, one move to Maryland, and DJ's mother's return. After only two months back in the states, the Navy informs her that she is being deployed to Africa. What?! I have done this sorta single parent thing, but I always had help. Now, here I am, alone. We just returned from taking DJ's mother to the airport. It's just the kid and me now. I barely know anyone here in Maryland. I am terrified! This is my first real experience as a single parent, and he's not even my kid!!! Today is day one of about 215, and all I can really do is pray and take care of DJ to the best of my abilities.
